In her role at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, a 500-bed hospital based in Shawnee, Kansas, she specializes in critical care medicine and contributes to lifesaving operations in virtually every department of the facility’s intensive care unit, including burn victims, patients suffering from cardiovascular distress or traumatic wounds, and those under surgical care. Truly multifaceted in her skillset, Ms. Walters also lends her aid to patients afflicted by mental illness or substance abuse.
Inspired to become a nurse due to her personal experiences caring for her grandfather, Ms. Walters initially studied at Rockhurst University. After earning her undergraduate degree at the University of Kansas, she returned to Rockhurst and attained a master’s degree in adult gerontological care in 2020 and another degree in family practice nursing during the following year. To remain aware of developments affecting her profession, she maintains her affiliation with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Outside of her primary professional efforts, Ms. Walters and her husband, Gordon, serve as the owners of Own the White at Night, a White River travel guide service that caters to fishing enthusiasts. In accounting for her overall success, she largely credits her Christian faith, as well as the love and support of her family and friends. Looking toward the future, Ms. Walters aspires to continue exemplifying the best qualities of a nurse practitioner and to use her skills on behalf of those in need.
