Michael V. Cardamone, PharmD, director of specialty pharmacy at Optum Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of medicine.
Bolstered by more than a decade of practiced expertise, Dr. Cardamone has cultivated a career of excellence in the field of pharmaceutical medicine. Since 2021, he has served as the director of specialty pharmacy at Optum Inc. In this position, he oversees his own medical suite, where he works on various specialty drugs and infusions. Furthermore, Dr. Cardamone leads his own team of analysts and economic development consultants, who serve to connect the company with clients and customers.
Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Cardamone excelled as the director of pharmacy for Anthem (now Elevance Health) from 2019 to 2021. Furthermore, he worked extensively with Fidelis Care, as part of the Centene Corporation, from 2012 to 2017, originally joining as a clinical pharmacist and subsequently holding positions as a senior clinical pharmacist and behavioral health supervisor pharmacist. At the onset of his career, Dr. Cardamone operated as a staff pharmacist for CVS between 2011 and 2012.
As part of his vocational journey, Dr. Cardamone has remained affiliated with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy. He also previously pursued a formal education at the University of Buffalo, where he achieved a Bachelor of Science in biochemical pharmacology in 2007 and a Doctor of Pharmacy in 2011. In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Cardamone has been a licensed pharmacist in the state of New York since 2011.
Beyond his primary responsibilities, Dr. Cardamone has found success as a mentor for local pharmacy students in Buffalo, New York, and Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In 2023, he gained invaluable insight on leadership from Dirk McMahon, the chief operating officer of United Health Group. Furthermore, Dr. Cardamone was spotlighted on the LinkedIn page of The Nontraditional Pharmacist.
Dr. Cardamone was originally drawn to the field of medicine at a young age, and so he naturally gravitated towards a career in the pharmaceutical industry. In light of his fulfilling career, he has largely attributed his success to his parents, who instilled in him the importance of hard work, social skills and education. In the coming years, Dr. Cardamone looks forward to continuing his growth, both professionally and personally, in addition to taking on further responsibilities in his field. Furthermore, he hopes to excel further as a leader of others.
