With more than 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Yang has excelled as a school social worker for St. Paul Public Schools since 1989. In this position, he works with students living with emotional and behavioral challenges as well as their parents. Additionally active as a counselor for a group home program, he has also contributed to Lao Family Community Development Inc., the Minnesota Board of Social Work and the Minnesota School Social Workers Association. As a refugee himself, Mr. Yang has previously served as a refugee case worker, a mental health worker and a mental health clinician prior to his present role.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Yang pursued an education at the University of Minnesota, from which he earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology in 1985. He concluded his formal academic studies at the aforementioned university in 1988, graduating with a Master of Social Work. Attributing his success to his desire to survive as well as his unwavering passion for helping others, Mr. Yang hopes to retire as a social worker in the coming years with the hope of continuing his efforts as a counselor working in group homes for the elderly.
