In preparation for her career, Ms. Maguire earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and later graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Master of Science in electrical engineering. She continued her higher education at Bryn Mawr College, obtaining a Master of Social Service. Ms. Maguire attended the Family Therapy Institute and holds certification as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board Certified Diplomat.
Since 1983, Ms. Maguire has served as an individual, marital, and family therapist at Caramanico Maguire Associates. In her current position, she manages the business, works with chief executive officers of various companies, and works as a business consultant. Prior to her mental health care career, she worked for IBM as an engineer and taught at Temple University.
Ms. Maguire’s innate interest in marriage and the family led her to her career, as she has always read on the subject as a hobby even during her engineering studies. She attributes her success to the incredibly nurturing environment she enjoyed in her early life, living in a three-story apartment with her extended family. She credits her mother for her emotional intelligence and her father, a schoolteacher, for her intellectual curiosity and ability.
Among her career accomplishments, Ms. Maguire considers transitioning to therapy as the highlight of her professional life. She believes that in order to heal others, one must love others unconditionally. In the coming years, she hopes to write a book about therapy to share her knowledge and build on her comprehensive family therapy model.
