Asha Mampilly, Supervisor, Occupational Therapy Department at Positive Beginnings Preschool, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in assisting special education students.
After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in finance from Baruch College in New York, Ms. Mampilly subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration in internal auditing from Fordham University in the Bronx in 2004 and a Master of Science in occupational therapy from Columbia University in 2007. She began her career in finance and excelled as an accountant, an investment bank auditor with Bankers Trust Company from 1991 to 2001 and assistant vice president with Deutsche Bank from 2001 to 2004. Ms. Mampilly then turned her attention to occupational therapy when her son told her that she was the only parent that was not available during programs at school, and she took a sabbatical and trained for a profession that would allow her to spend more time with him.
Since 2008, Ms. Mampilly has provided superior care and instruction as an occupational therapist with Positive Beginnings Preschool. In this capacity, she treats special education students through the therapeutic use of everyday activities, which help them develop, recover, improve, as well as maintain the skills needed for daily living and working. Since 2018, she has prospered with the preschool as a supervisor and lead therapist. In addition, since 2011 she has found success as a contract therapist in private practice. As a career highlight, Ms. Mampilly took pride in being able to help a multiple amputee during her hospital internship who had had a stroke. In the coming years, she envisions herself supervising at the statewide level and promoting occupational therapy. She would like to bring more awareness into what is happening with special education children.
