Jeanie Edwards

Title: Founder / Instructor
Company: The CPR Gals
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia, United States

Jeanie Edwards, Founder at The CPR Gals, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in CPR and disaster relief instruction.

Since volunteering with the American Red Cross at age 12 in 1968, Ms. Edwards has heeded the call of community service and has enjoyed a career in public health of over four decades. She has provided superior service as an emergency medical technician for 20 years and as a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid instructor with the American Red Cross since 1999. In 2012 Ms. Edwards founded a premier first aid and disaster education instructional firm, The CPR Gals, based in Pasadena, California and serving Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Orange, Riverside and San Bernadino Counties.

Keenly cognizant of community matters, Ms. Edwards has served as a Committee Member with the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association and volunteered with C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team), as a ham radio Operator (KC6WOR) with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in Disaster Communications and with the El Monte Police Department Mounted Unit Volunteers.

Ms. Edwards’ numerous honors include Best of Pasadena Awards in First Aid & Safety Instruction, Pasadena Award Program in the CPR and First Aid Classes/Disaster Education Classes category, Pasadena Small Business Excellence Award in the CPR Classes classification, Pasadena Small Business Excellence Award in the First Aid and CPR Classes classification and Best Businesses of Pasadena Award in the CPR and First Aid Classes Category.

Ms. Edwards gives the credit to her deep Christian faith and her maternal grandparents. She was named after her great-grandmother, who inspired the Stephen Foster song “I Dream of Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair.” In the 1860s, the composer married a short, red-haired woman named Jane. Shunned by her rich family, he ran away and ended up at the pub and candy store of Ms. Edwards’ grandparents. Her grandmother eventually convinced him to reconcile with his wife, who refused to welcome him back. As a thank you to her grandmother, however, Foster created the song.

Taking great pride in her service as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for more than two decades, Ms. Edwards also draws satisfaction from her volunteerism efforts, particularly in the aftermaths of disasters, including hurricanes and wildfires. Having been taught by her grandparents to give back to society, she is grateful to have served numerous individuals, families and communities, not only in terms of their medical emergencies, but also in educating them in emergency procedures or assistance. She also notes being a junior volunteer at Huntington Memorial Hospital during her years in high school, serving there longer than all the other volunteers did. When she went back to visit the facility, she found out that she still holds the record for the highest number of volunteer hours.

Now a resident of Morgantown, West Virginia, Ms. Edwards’s goal in the next few years is to reinvent herself and become known in the community by utilizing her expertise and being helpful as she was in Pasadena. Another goal in her life is to be the best follower of Christ by being the most helpful person that she can be and become a good example.
