Maryam S. Lockhart, MLS, Medical Technologist II at Emory Healthcare, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in clinical pathology.
With a desire to pursue a career in the medical field, Ms. Lockhart went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in biology with a pre-med concentration from the University of West Georgia in 2014, followed by a Master of Health Science in clinical laboratory science from Augusta University in 2018. Consequently, she developed a passion for the field, as she became fascinated by the nature of clinical pathology which primarily deals with science. Since 2018, Ms. Lockhart has excelled as a medical technologist II with Emory Healthcare, building off prior experience as a microbiology laboratory technician for Alpha Scientific Inc. and Golden State Foods between 2015 and 2018. Earlier, in 2015, she was a transporter for Hertz.
To remain abreast of changes and developments to her field, Ms. Lockhart maintains affiliation with the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, as well as Phi Sigma Phi. She attributes her success to her willingness and drive to learn, as the more information she gathers through asking questions, the more knowledgeable she became about the field. In five years’ time, Ms. Lockhart hopes to start a summer camp for high school students to educate and encourage them to pursue a career the field of clinical laboratory science. Her goal is on day one is to teach kids about her field and on day two and three, to guide them on learning about microbiology, hematology, blood bank, chemistry and doing hands on activities.
