Hailing from the Philippines, Dr. Montales initially obtained a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry in 2002 and continued her education with Master of Public Health coursework and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of the Philippines in 2009. After immigrating to the United States, she served a postdoctoral fellowship in breast cancer research from 2010 to 2015 with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock. Following coursework in emergency medicine research from 2015 to 2016, Dr. Montales undertook a residency in family medicine from 2016 to 2019 with UAMS. 

Dr. Montales began her career as a physician in the Philippines in 2009. After completing her family medicine residency, she has provided superior care from 2019 to the present as a family medicine physician and hospitalist with CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs in Arkansas. As a hospitalist, her primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients, with her responsibilities including patient care, teaching, research, and leadership related to hospital medicine. 

To remain aware of changes and advancements in her field, Dr. Montales has maintained affiliation with the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Arkansas Academy of Family Physicians, the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, the Filipino American Association and the Endocrine Society, where she is a three-time recipient of Outstanding Abstract Awards in what she considers to be a career highlight.

Dr. Montales attributes her success to her strong faith and to her dedication, hard work and commitment. She became involved in her profession because of her passion for helping others. Dr. Montales became passionate about family medicine due to its continuity of care and broader knowledge and spectrum of practice. What appealed to her the most is the ability to practice in a clinical setting as a primary care physician while being able to practice emergency medicine at the same time. In the coming years, Dr. Montales hopes to become a primary care physician and believes that telemedicine will be a common modality in the future. It would give her an opportunity to reach more people and provide the medical care and services that they require.
