For more than two decades, Ms. Slechta has excelled in private practice as a marriage and family therapist, licensed to evaluate, diagnose, and treat mental and emotional disorders, health issues and behavioral issues as well as a wide range of relationship dynamics within the context of couples, marriage, and family systems.
After attaining an Associate in Arts from Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California, Ms. Slechta continued her education with a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Long Beach and a Master in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of La Verne in La Verne, California.
As a therapist, Ms. Slechta has specialized in family crisis intervention, sexual identity counseling, and ran a 24-hour hotline with the Viejo Family Crisis Intervention Center, overseeing volunteers who worked on the hotline and providing counseling in different areas such as rape, incest, molestation, suicide, alcohol, marriage and family and child abuse.
Ms. Slechta attributes her success to her realization that there are more similarities than differences in the human condition. Working at the Viejo Family Crisis Intervention Center exposed her to every facet of human living conditions and served as an enjoyable and enriching experience for her. After leaving the center, she ventured into private practice with a view to helping more healthy people.
Having retired in 2004, Ms. Slechta is happily taking care of herself and her family. She was married for 41 years to her second husband, James, who tragically passed away due to a severe infection from surgery.
