Mary Kimmons, Team Lead Registered Nurse at Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center / Home Base Primary Care, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in caring for veterans.

With over 25 years in the medical field, Ms. Kimmons has provided superior care in numerous areas that include hospital settings, occupational health, public health and home health. In 2019, she was honored to receive the highest awards for nurses at Atlanta Veterans Affairs by winning the Secretary Award for Nursing Excellence, Magnet Nurse Award and the Daisy Award.

In 1998, Ms. Kimmons obtained a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of West Georgia in Carrollton. She excelled as a nurse with the Haralson County Health Department and Tanner Medical Hospital System in Carrollton and since 2012 as a registered nurse and team lead with Veterans Affairs Medical Center / Home Base Primary Care. In this capacity, she treats bedbound veterans who have difficulty in getting to medical centers, coordinating visits from social workers, nurses and physical therapists, as well as scheduling in-person or telehealth doctor visits and ordering medication.

In addition, Ms. Kimmons volunteers as a speaker in some local churches and women’s groups, giving presentations on how stress can affect heart disease in women as well as the African-American community. In addition, she has helped distribute the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. She considers her career highlight to be receiving the VA Nurse Excellence Award in May 2019 presented by Georgia’s Secretary of State, as well as the Daisy Team Award given for exceptional changes and innovations that were made at VA. In the coming years, Ms. Kimmons is looking forward to a well-deserved retirement.
