Title: CT Technologist
Company: Lehigh Valley Hospital
Location: Lehighton, Pennsylvania, United States
Melanie Mears, CT Technologist at Lehigh Valley Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in computed tomography.
Ms. Mears provides superior service as a certified radiologic technologist, computed tomography (CT) technologist and X-ray technologist with Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pennsylvania. In this capacity, she is responsible for using imaging machines and tools to create a map of a patient’s internal tissues and organ systems to assess their overall health. Technologists must be able to accurately interpret a physician’s scanning instructions, administer contrast materials, prepare and operate the CT scan equipment and position the patient to capture the appropriate images. Ms. Mears works with patients who have had severe brain injuries, severe strokes and traumas, as well as COVID-19.
Ms. Mears was inspired to enter the medical imaging field after witnessing her father’s experience as an emergency medical technician (EMT) and as a firefighter. When she was 11 years old, her grandmother was diagnosed with cancer, which spurred her to do something to assist cancer patients. The following year, Ms. Mears suffered a broken arm and was deeply impressed by the X-ray technology that was employed for her diagnosis.
Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Mears has been most proud to earn triple certification in radiological service. Notably, she acquired her CT scan certification by performing her own research without formal schooling. Ms. Mears has been honored with a Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award, as an inductee in Who’s Who Top Professionals of the Year, and as a featured member in Marquis Millennium Magazine. Her goal in the coming years is to acquire a positron emission tomography (PET) scan certification.
