Patricia Hamilton Shook, PhD, MA, BA, Psychologist at Department of Developmental Services, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in clinical evaluations.
As a psychologist, Dr. Shook combines her professional expertise with an interest in spirituality and mysteries, along with a love of Cape Cod that dates back to childhood, to inform her debut novel “Seeking Glory.” Originally hailing from Massachusetts, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Arts in developmental psychology from San Francisco State University in California in 1981. She later continued her education with a Doctor of Philosophy in counseling psychology from Northeastern University in Boston in 2000.
Dr. Shook has provided superior care for more than 15 years as a psychologist with the Department of Developmental Services, administering programming and assessing applications for services and court proceedings for appeals. She has worked directly with clients to administer IQ tests and other clinical evaluations as well as provide cognitive behavioral therapy sessions and create treatment plans.
Driven by childhood experiences with clinical depression, Dr. Shook began working in institutional treatment facilities for people with intellectual disabilities during her studies toward a master’s degree. She has also always had a love of writing and has drawn upon her experiences as a psychologist in writing “Seeking Glory,” in which Kate, a divorced, successful businesswoman assumes custody of her four-year-old granddaughter, Glory, after the death of her long-missing daughter, Allison. Glory is partially mute, and Kate attempts to solve the mystery of what happened to both her granddaughter and her daughter.
While Dr. Shook hopes to retire from full-time work by age 70, she intends to write more novels characterized by a mixture of mystery and her professional background.
