Dr. Raymond F. Deicken, Neuropsychiatrist at the University of California, San Francisco, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in neuropsychological research.
Dr. Deicken is an honored practitioner and researcher in the field of neuropsychiatry and has excelled for more than three decades as a clinical neuroscientist, having flourished as a professor of psychiatry with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) since 2003. He began preparation for his career by obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Science in biological sciences from Stanford University in 1980 and continued his education with a medical doctorate from the UCSF in 1984. He thereupon served a residency and a research fellowship, utilizing in-vivo phosphorous and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging to study human brain disorders from 1984 to 1991 before prospering as an assistant and then associate professor of psychiatry with UCSF from 1991 to 2003 before attaining a full professorship.
In addition to his success at UCSF, Dr. Deicken has also provided superior care with the San Francisco Veterans Administration Medical Center as a staff physician and Medical Director of the VA Psychiatric Partial Hospital Program from 1991 to 2008.
Dr. Deicken is a diplomate of the National Board Medical Examiners, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; and is a licensed physician through the Medical Board of neuropsychological research California. His honors include a Young Investigator Award from the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression, a Stanley Foundation Research Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and a Veterans Administration Physician Research Associate Career Development Award. Dr. Deicken has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in the World.
Dr. Deicken is recognized as a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (UK), Collegium Internationale Neuropsychopharmacologicum, and International Society of Affective Disorders. He is also a member of the Society for Neuroscience, Society of Biological Psychiatry International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, New York Academy of Sciences, and the American Medical Association. Since 1993, he has been an alumni mentor with the Stanford University Student Alumni Mentor Program.
Dr. Deicken was inspired to become involved in his industry by a college professor who instilled an interest in neuroscience and research. As a career highlight, he cites his laboratory at UCSF setting an industry gold standard and mentioned in textbooks in radiology. In the coming years, he would like to set up a nonprofit foundation and award grants for research.
