Kimberly M. Smith, MS, BCBA, clinical director of behavior services at Always Promoting Independence, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in behavioral analysis.
Ms. Smith is a board-certified behavior analyst who has spent 29 years helping clients with developmental disabilities create and implement adaptive behavioral plans. Her interest in the field developed while she was in college: initially working toward a degree in special education, she instead found her calling in a therapeutic setting after working with young children on the autism spectrum. She graduated from Lee University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in psychology, and earned a Master of Science in applied behavior analysis at the Florida Institute of Technology in 2003. Ms. Smith began her career doing in-home behavioral consulting and worked with Interventions Unlimited, Inc. and Brevard Behavior Services from 2001 until 2003, when she accepted a position with the University of South Florida.
For the next five years, Ms. Smith worked with PARC and Manasota ARC, and was a member of the APD local review committee, rising to become chair from 2010 until 2013. She worked with Quest, Inc. until 2015, when she accepted her current position as clinical director of behavior services at Always Promoting Independence. Ms. Smith attributes her success to her self-driven and goal-oriented personality, and looks forward to continuing her work in the field. She is a member of the Association for Behavior Analysis International, the Association of Professional Behavioral Analysts, and the Florida Association for Behavioral Analysis, and is currently working toward completing a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology at Capella University.
