Ms. Covelli is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and licensed New York Public School Social Worker who has dedicated herself to supporting and empowering patients for more than three decades. After working as a peer counselor in high school, she recognized the potential that she had to make a difference in the lives of others and found her passion in working with others to help them overcome their challenges. A graduate of Adelphi University, she completed a Bachelor of Social Work in 1991 and a Master of Social Work in 1995 and began working as a prevention specialist and street outreach worker for the SPARK counseling program at Thomas A. After serving as a coordinator for the Anti-Defamation League of Syosset, New York, and director of Mercy First, Ms. Covelli was named Director of The Child Center of New York in 2005. For the next nine years, she continued to build the organization’s presence and support their mission of providing social and behavioral health resources for some of the city’s most underserved children. From 2014 until 2018, Ms. Covelli was the senior manager for NYC Outpatient Services, departing to focus on her private practice, Beth Covelli Counseling, and accept her current position as owner and Executive Director of New York Counseling for Change, LLC and Queens Counseling for Change, LLC. Both clinics specialize in working with patients exiting the criminal justice system after committing violent offenses, and under her guidance, they have been certified as a New York State Office of Mental Health Article 31 Outpatient Clinic.
Ms. Covelli is chair of the Queens Consortium on Substance Abuse and Alcoholism, a stakeholder in the Queens Re-Entry Task Force and Queens Probation NEON Group, and sits on the Board of Directors of the New York Association of Substance Abuse Providers and the Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers of New York State.
