Empathizing with individuals who have experienced similar trauma and hardships, Mr. Parker has dedicated his life to providing assistance to those struggling with addiction and mental health issues. Celebrating sobriety for nearly 25 years, he is proud to serve as a beacon of hope and support for those who are feeling alienated through individual and group therapy, medication-assisted treatments and personalized case management. He obtained an Associate of Science in corrections administration from the Community College of Allegheny County in 1995 prior to earning a Bachelor of Arts in social work and a Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997 and 1998, respectively. Thereafter, he found success as a care manager at UPMC Community Care Behavioral Health Organization, an addiction therapist at the Program for Offenders in Pittsburgh and as a psychotherapist at Mon Yough Community Services. Moreover, he instructs addiction counseling, crisis intervention, dual diagnosis and stress management at both the Community College of Allegheny County and the University of Pittsburgh.
In addition to his professional career, Mr. Parker has published the book “Take the High Road…,” which chronicles drug and alcohol addiction, neurological disorders and incarceration, while providing an inspiring arc of redemption. Because he has excelled as a field instructor to undergraduate and graduate students, he is honored to have been selected to present his research as the keynote speaker at a statewide community college leadership conference in Pennsylvania. He contributes to Tunnel of Towers, Disables American Veterans and the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Pennsylvania. Looking toward the future, he aims to continue to teach in his community while serving as a motivational speaker regarding topics of clinical depression, addiction, abuse and anger management.
