Jane Lewis, retired family nurse practitioner at Reading School District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing and community health.

Ms. Lewis celebrates nearly five decades of success as a nurse practitioner working in a variety of hospital, clinic, and community health settings throughout Pennsylvania. Since childhood, she dreamed of becoming a nurse, explaining her desire to “make things better” for others. She earned a diploma from the Brandywine Hospital School of Nursing in 1962 and began her career as an operating room nurse at Brandywine Hospital the same year. For the remainder of the decade, Ms. Lewis worked as an office nurse and secretary for two private practices in the Coatesville, Pennsylvania area. She joined Physician’s Medical Center as a supervisor and clinic nurse in 1974, and returned to school in the early 1980s, completing Bachelor of Science degrees in nursing and psychology at Kutztown University in 1984.

Ms. Lewis became a licensed registered nurse and certified school nurse practitioner in 1985, and earned a Master of Science in nursing administration at Villanova University in 1989. She worked for the Reading School District as a school nurse practitioner from 1984 until 2006, and has spent more than 35 years working additionally as a temporary nurse for Portamedic Health Care of Allentown and Medical Personnel Pool of Allentown. In 2000, Ms. Lewis was awarded an additional Master of Science degree from Widener University, and in 2007, she became certified to administer chemotherapy and biotherapy. Since stepping away from school nursing, Ms. Lewis has concentrated her practice on oncology and cancer care, and she hopes to begin work toward a Doctor of Philosophy in cancer research or metabolism in the coming years. In recognition of her commitment to her practice, she has been named a Top Nurse Practitioner in two states, and is active in the American Nurses Association, the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, the Oncology Nursing Society, and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
