Barbara J. Justice, MD, Forensic Psychiatrist at Glaser Forensics Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of forensic psychiatry.
With more than four decades of practiced expertise in mental health service, Dr. Justice has achieved professional success through her specialty in forensic psychiatry. In this capacity, she provides psychopharmacological service for adults, children and adolescents, evaluates criminal defendants who are judged to be incompetent in standing trial, and assesses court reports. Furthermore, she was the chief executive officer and medical director of the Glaser Forensic Group, which is a leading provider of psychological services in the state of California, until 2022. Currently, Dr. Justice has been active as a forensic attending for the California Department of State Hospitals and operates out of a private practice, where she evaluates civil, criminal and worker’s compensation cases, writes reports and testifies in legal disputes surrounding mental health issues.
Prior to her work with the Glaser Forensic Group, Dr. Justice found success as a program investigator for both the Jonas Salk Institute and the National Institutes of Health, as well as an attending physician at the Addiction Research and Treatment Corporation in Brooklyn, New York. Furthermore, she distinguished herself as a surgical oncologist and consulting psychiatrist for various facilities, including the Howard University Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., the North General Hospital of New York and Riker’s Island Correctional Facility, to name only a few. Dr. Justice also earned distinction as a medical radio journalist and talk show host for the Inner City Broadcasting Corporation on WBLS-FM.
Well regarded for her scholarly output, Dr. Justice has lectured prolifically on a number of subjects, including on the ethics of certain medical procedures, such as electroconvulsive therapy and the involuntary administration of psychotropic medication. Likewise, she has delivered presentations before the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and the University of California Los Angeles, among other organizations. Dr. Justice’s work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal in 2018 and 2019, and the former mayor of New York City, David Dinkins, declared a day in her honor in 1996.
Dr. Justice’s exemplary performance in the field was largely fueled by her academic efforts, which began at the City College of New York, from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts. Further degrees to her credit include a second and third Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University and Connecticut College, as well as a Doctor of Medicine from the Howard University Medical School. Eminently qualified in her field, Dr. Justice is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Association of Community Psychiatrists and the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, among many others.
