Equipped with a science-driven mindset, Ms. Rickey had classmates in her youth who had difficulties with speaking. Intrigued, she sought to delve into a profession in which she could help patients with speech impediments and other speech-related disorders. First receiving an undergraduate degree in speech pathology from Washington State University in 1979, she went on to earn a Master’s degree from Eastern Washington University in 1981.
At the inception of her career, Ms. Rickey worked part-time at a local hospital for a decade before joining the Newport Unified School District in Washington State as a speech pathologist. Serving in this role for a resounding 38 years, she most recently joined Newport Hospital & Health Services in 2019, where she excels today as a speech pathologist. Alongside her primary endeavors, Ms. Rickey has also served as a leader of the 4H nonprofit organization for more than four decades and maintains affiliation with the Newport Rodeo Association, Inland Barrel Racing Association, and ProWest Rodeo Association, among other civic duties. She is also a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. As a testament to her success, Ms. Rickey was honored with the Gold Card from the Washington Barrel Racing Association in 2010. Looking toward the future, she intends to continue working for Newport Hospital & Health Services and subsequently ease into a well-deserved retirement. Likewise, she also desires to continue working for the 4H organization and spend more time with her four grandchildren.
