Ms. Olsen began her journey towards her career by receiving a Bachelor of Science in education from Indiana University in 1972. From there, she received a Master of Arts in special education from Ball State University in 1978. She then received a Master of Arts in counseling and guidance from Governors State University in 2001. Upon completion of her schooling, Ms. Olson became a licensed professional counselor, a nationally certified alcohol and drug abuse counselor, a clinical addictions counselor, and a certified LMHC and LCAC.
Ms. Olson began her professional career as a teacher of adult education at Portage Adult Education in 1975. From there, she became a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the deaf at the Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation in Highland, Indiana from 1975 to 1986. She then moved on to become an addictions and behavioral medicine counselor at Methodist Hospital from 1986 to 2006. While in that position, she also became a group facilitator at the St. Jude House from 2000 to 2011. From 2006 to 2015, Ms. Olson was working for the Regional Mental Health Center. Since 2016, she has been an addictions and mental health therapist at Parkdale Center for Professionals. As a testament to her success, Ms. Olsen received a Letter of Commendation from Governor Robert Orr, Governor Otis Bowen, and President Ronald Reagan in 1986.
