Judith Carol Powell, a Clinical Psychologist in private practice, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of psychology.

Specialized in the field of psychology, Ms. Powell lends more than three decades to the field of clinical psychology. Having previously distinguished herself as a clinical psychologist at the Wake County Mental Health Center, she subsequently worked in outpatient services at Holly Hill Mental Health Services. Presently, Ms. Powell has served the residents of Chapel Hill and Raleigh, North Carolina, as a psychologist in private practice since 1991.

Outside of her primary career endeavors, Ms. Powell has earned distinction through her advocacy on behalf of the gay and lesbian community in North Carolina. To wit, she has served on the board of directors for Our Own Place, a lesbian community center in Durham, North Carolina, from 1989 until 1990, and in a similar capacity with the North Carolina Lesbian and Gay Health Project between 1992 and 1993. Likewise, she is most proud to have initially worked for the Triangle and Business Professional Guild, which led to her more direct collaboration with the LGBT community at large. Among her other volunteer efforts, Ms. Powell excelled as the secretary of the North Carolina Psychological Association from 2008 to 2014.

Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Powell sought a formal education at Furman University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. Following this accomplishment, she worked as a forensic chemist at the Georgia State Crime Laboratory in Atlanta, Georgia, and spent much of her early career as a scientific glassblower in Ann Arbor, Michigan. At the behest of a friend of hers, however, Ms. Powell returned to her academic studies and attended Bowling Green State University, from which she received a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology.
