Lester L. Carter Jr., Consultant at Hayat-Carter Herbal Shoppe, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pharmacy.
Serving with the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954, Dr. Carter began his career as a medic in the Korean War. Influenced by his experiences with medicine and helping others, he aspired to pursue a career in pharmacy upon his arrival back from Korea. Following his goals, he achieved a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1958. With more than 40 years of professional expertise to his credit, he relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1968.
In 1968, Dr. Carter opened Carter Drugstore in Milwaukee. In 2015, the store became known as Hayat-Carter Herbal Shoppe, a subsidiary of Hayat Pharmacy. For four decades, he filled prescriptions and dispensed herbal remedies. In addition to traditional pharmaceutical practices, he is also frequently consulted for his proficiency in the healing properties of herbal remedies. Along with his professional expertise, Dr. Carter is loved by his customers for his care, patience, and overall exceptional service to the community. Despite his retirement, he continues to serve as a consultant to the Hayat-Carter Herbal Shoppe and to his alma mater, Creighton University.
In 2015, the Medical College of Wisconsin bestowed upon Dr. Carter an honorary doctorate. He was chosen for the honor due to his dedication to providing personalized and compassionate health care for people of all backgrounds and for outstanding service to humanity at large as a leader and role model. Likewise, the city of Milwaukee celebrated him in 2018 by naming a street after him. The sign remains on display outside of Hayat-Carter Herbal on the corner of North 24th Street and Burleigh Street. Furthermore, Dr. Carter has published “Healing the Human Body with God’s Remedies,” a text that advises on the benefits of naturalistic medicine.
