Mental health challenges had afflicted Ms. McCollister’s extended family throughout her upbringing and she felt compelled to challenge the stigma in her professional career. Backed by a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Loyola University from 2002, she went on to obtain a Master of Science in clinical psychology from Benedictine University in 2007. Notably, she became a licensed clinical professional counselor and nationally certified counselor in 2008. Dedicated to helping those who are suffering from mental health issues, Ms. McCollister has served as the founder and owner of the Wheaton Wellness Center since 2016. She has also been a clinical therapist with Linden Oaks Hospital since 2002.
Specializing in individual, couples and family therapy, Ms. McCollister works to help her patients learn to manage anxiety, school refusal, improve their mood, resolve relationship conflicts and decrease stress or trauma. Overall, her therapeutic approach is to provide support, encouragement and feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. Named to Glancer Magazine’s Fascinating Faces of the Year in 2019, Ms. McCollister attributes her professional success to her ability to connect with people so that they feel safe and welcome in sessions. Upon her civic duties, she proudly serves on the Mental Health Board for the Town of Geneva, Illinois. Looking ahead, she plans to grow her practice with more staff and meet more needs throughout her local community. In addition, she hopes to spearhead a nonprofit organization for members of the community who may not be able to afford therapy. When she is not working, Ms. McCollister enjoys gardening and spending time with her two dogs.
