Raymond W. Hannagan, Neonatal Respiratory Therapist at Doctors Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in neonatal care.
Mr. Hannagan became involved in his profession after starting his career as an orthopedic technician and respiratory therapist. After leaving the U.S. Navy in Florida, he wanted to move back to California, so he was looking for a job with his medical experience and the job he found was as a respiratory therapist trainee, and he loved it, so he went back to school to become a therapist. Mr. Hannigan matriculated at Pritt College, where he became a respiratory therapist. While in the U.S. Navy, he became a certified orthopedic technician and served in the Vietnam War. He was a U.S. Navy Corpsman from 1970 to 1974.
Mr. Hannagan’s most notable achievement was saving lives. He worked with premature babies that were less than a pound and when he saw them a couple of years later and they were doing well it made him feel good. He began his career in 1976, working in the Neonatal Unit at City Hospital until 1990. In 1990, he joined Doctors Medical Center as a neonatal respiratory therapist, where he remained until his retirement in 2019. Mr. Hannagan’s greatest career achievement is what he did. For example, many babies would not be alive if his team had not helped, and he is very proud of being a respiratory therapist, which was very rewarding. As a testament to his success, Mr. Hannagan received Employee of the Year from Doctors Medical Center. Now that he is retired, he wants to drive his Thunderbird and use wood for art. He also enjoys making stone coat counter-tops, it is fun, and he made a couple of tables and a bench for his workshop.
