Lovely J. Houston, RN, Peer Support Specialist at Hampton VA Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
Ms. Houston became involved in her field at the recommendation of another doctor, who encouraged her to pursue health care after seeing her natural ability to help others. In 1994, Ms. Houston earned a Bachelor of Science in pre-medicine and biology from Norfolk State University. In the following years, she furthered her education at her alma mater by acquiring a Bachelor of Science in nursing and an RN certification. She additionally earned a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in healthcare management from the Keller Graduate School of Management in 2011.
In 2013, after gaining experience in varying roles, including that of a systems analyst and operating room attendant, Ms. Houston was hired as a peer support specialist at the Hampton VA Medical Center. She remains in that role today, continuing to demonstrate consistent success by providing help to those in need. Outside of her primary endeavors, Ms. Houston began working as a patient advocate for the Domiciliary in 2018. She attributes much of her success to her willingness to serve. Currently, Ms. Houston is pursuing a Master of Social Work at Regis College. She is expected to graduate in the year 2022.
