Kathy T Rider, LCSW, BCD, CGP, FAGPA, a Clinical Social Worker in Private Practice, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Social Work.

While serving as a dorm counselor at the University of Texas, Ms. Rider discovered her interest in mental health and her passion for helping those in need of services.  Now, with more than 50 years of professional practice experience, Ms. Rider is a distinguished licensed clinical social worker and group psychotherapist.  Her credentials include a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master’s of Science in Social Work, both acquired at The University of Texas at Austin.  Since 1977, she has been in private practice, gaining initial experience at numerous clinics and organizations throughout Texas.

Ms. Rider commenced her career as an adult mental health staff member at the Austin Travis County Mental Health-Mental Retardation Center from 1969 to 1977.  At the same time, she served as a consultant to the Model Cities Project in Austin, as well as a community organization specialist of alcohol-related services.  Ms. Rider returned to the UT School of Social Work as a clinical field faculty member in 1977.  Later, she served UT as an adjunct faculty member from 1999 to 2001.  She had earlier been an adjunct professor in Behavioral Sciences at St. Edward’s University from 1983 to 1991.

As a result of her years of compassionate and devoted work, Ms. Rider became a Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association in 2010.  Earlier, she was the recipient of the 2001 Charles Wright Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work.  She also received the 2007 Christine W Anderson Award from the Austin Child Guidance Center for her work with children, adolescents and families.  Ms. Rider is especially proud of her service as an elected public official serving first as Vice President and then as President of the Austin Independent School District Board of Trustees for over 10 years.  She has also served as President of the Texas Society for Clinical Social Work and the Southwestern Group Psychotherapy Society.  She credits much of her success to her numerous mentors, including Louis E DeMoll, Hattie Berg and Thelma Elliot.

Ms. Rider is a member of the Clinical Social Work Association Board, the Group Foundation for Advancing Mental Health Board and the National Association of Social Workers.  In her free time, she is a student of American History, a sports fan of the University of Texas, a member of an almost 20 yearlong Book Club and contributes to her community by being a member of the Settlement Club of Austin.  To attest to her legacy, Ms. Rider can also be found in the 57th through 59th editions of Who’s Who in America, the 20th and 21st editions of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and the 22nd, 23rd and 25th editions of Who’s Who of American Women.
