Johanna Kaplan, PhD, Founder, Director and Clinical Psychologist at Washington Anxiety Center of Capitol Hill, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychology.
Dr. Kaplan was working as a reporter in Washington D.C. While on assignment covering a murder case, she had an epiphany that, instead of reporting the story, she had to be a part of the change of the story. That is what led her to go into psychology as a double major. Dr. Kaplan received a Bachelor of Science in psychology and communications from American University and a PhD in clinical psychology from The Catholic University of America. From there, she became a postdoctoral fellow at the Anxiety Disorders Center/Hartford Hospital at the Institute for Living in 2010 until 2012. Upon completion of her education, she became a licensed child and adult clinical psychologist for the states of Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C.
Dr. Kaplan started her career as a staff clinical psychologist at the Center for Anxiety and Behavioral Change in 2012 and remained there until 2016. In 2016, she became a director and clinical psychologist at the Washington Anxiety Center of Capitol Hill, where she remains today. She has over 60 presentations/publications in clinical anxiety in adult, adolescent, and child populations. She has been interviewed for several articles in Parent magazine, parent.com, Romper.com, klicknews.com, the Hillrag.com, and has been interviewed by several local television media outlets. As a testament to her success, Dr. Kaplan was named Best in Behavioral & Child Psychology by the Washingtonian in 2018 and 2019 and received an Early Career in Clinical Practice Award from the Anxiety & Depression Association of America in 2016.
