Gary Forrest, Psychotherapist at Psychotherapy Associates PC and Author, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mental health.
After being a star athlete in high school and receiving a scholarship to the all-premed institution Westminster College, Dr. Forrest earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. As he didn’t feel practicing medicine in this respect was for him, he decided to explore the study of psychology. He continued with psychology in his master’s program, earning an MEd from the University of Missouri in 1967. From there he worked on earning an EdD from the University of North Dakota, simultaneously dedicating his time to the institution’s ROTC program. After earning the EdD in 1970, he fulfilled his military service. Commander Alton B. Patton saw his best fit was to be assigned to the Ft. Gordon Hospital Department of Social Work and the Department of Psychiatry, Alcohol and Drug Rehab Center, serving to the rank of Lieutenant Signal Officer in this venture. Throughout his career, Dr. Forrest taught at a number of intuitions, including the University of North Dakota, Augusta College, the Medical College of Georgia, the University of Northern Colorado and the Colorado School of Professional Psychology. From 1976 to 2019, he served as the Executive director of Psychotherapy Associates, PC and the Institute for Addictive Behavioral Change in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Throughout his career, Dr. Forrest has been honored on numerous occasions for his work and considers receiving the Alumni Achievement Award from Westminster College in 1987 to be one of the highlights. Other accolades he has received include the National Service Award from the National Council of Alcoholism, the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Department Of Counseling Psychology And Community Services at University of North Dakota and the President’s Award from the Colorado Association of Addiction Professionals among myriad others. With Psychotherapy Associates, he has also had the opportunity to direct their annual symposium. Throughout his career, Dr. Forrest has maintained professional affiliation with the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association and the National Register of Health Service Psychology Providers.
