Chris J. Franzese, PharmD, Clinical Leader at Matchstick LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in clinical pharmacy.
Inspired by his father, who passed away at a young age due to a cerebral aneurysm, Dr. Franzese pursued a career in medicine. Today, he excels as a PGY1 pharmacy resident with Atlantic Health Systems and as the clinical leader of Matchstick LLC, a drug delivery device consultancy. In his position with Matchstick, Dr. Franzese supervises the leadership team with full accountability for the clinical function and company achievement of strategic and financial objectives, serves as a medical information and clinical practice advisor, empowers an internal team comprised of individuals with no clinical background or training to be fully conversant in clinical topics, and trains, mentors and coaches team members in regards to projects and their own personal development.
Over the years, Dr. Franzese has gained valuable expertise in the field in several positions with Atlantic Health Systems, including an advanced pharmacy practice extern of project informatics and operational informatics, as well as similar roles specializing in community pharmacy and institutional pharmacy with Walgreens and Capital Health. He further flourished as the lead clinical analyst with Matchstick between 2015 and 2018, a clinical analyst with Matchstick from 2014 to 2015 and a clinical research associate with LifeBridge Health from 2012 to 2014. Dr. Franzese retains his professional alignment with the Industry Pharmacists Organization, the New Jersey Pharmacist Association, the American Pharmacists Association and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in order to remain aware of industry changes.
An expert in his field, Dr. Franzese studied abroad at Monash University in Australia in 2010. Subsequently, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology from Loyola University Maryland in 2012, and a Master of Science in Health and a PharmD from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2018. Additionally, Dr. Franzese is certified in advanced cardiac life support, basic life support for health care providers, pediatric advanced life support, a Six Sigma Green Belt, pharmacy-based immunization delivery and delivering medication in therapy management.
Along with other scholars in the field, Dr. Franzese has contributed to publications such as “Impact of Steroid Monotherapy on the Presentation and Diagnosis of Aggressive NK-Cell Lymphoma: a Case Report” in BAOJ Pharmaceutical Sciences, “Statin Therapy and Inflammation in Patients With Diabetes Treated With High Dose Aspirin” in the Journal of Diabetes Complications and “Influence of Race and Sex on Thrombogenicity in a Large Cohort of Coronary Artery Disease Patients” in the Journal of the American Heart Association. Additionally, he has utilized his considerable knowledge in professional presentations for such entities as the American College of Cardiology and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Although his career is still burgeoning, he has already been honored with the Tenet Award Think, the Outstanding Scholarship Award, and the William A. Lockwood Jr. Scholarship from Fairleigh Dickinson University’s School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Recognized among the 99th Percentile of the Pharmacy Curriculum Outcomes Assessment via the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, Dr. Franzese intends to grow within the field and obtain more of an administrative position in the years to come.
