Mary Ellen Jordan Kearney, Social Worker, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements and leadership in social work.

Inspired by her mother, who was also a social worker, Ms. Kearney began her professional career as a social worker in the Division of Family Services at the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services in Milwaukee in 1964, remaining in this position for a year before moving up the ranks to psychiatric social worker from 1970 to 1976. During this time, she served in the same position at the Milwaukee County Child Psychiatry Clinic from 1967 to 1968. She then served as the social service supervisor at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute’s Children’s Consultation Service from 1976 to 1981 and a nephrology social worker at Fox Valley Regional Dialysis Center in Neenah, Wisconsin, from 1978 to 1991. A psychiatric social worker at St. Agnes Hospital-Meta Resource Center from 1980 to 1981 and Theda Clark Regional Medical Center from 1981 to 1983, Ms. Kearney worked in her own private psychotherapy practice with Westshore Psychiatric Associates from 1981 to 1986 and was a clinical social worker at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics from 1991 until her retirement in 1998. She has additionally served in a number of other roles.

Prior to the start of her career, Ms. Kearney pursued a formal education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1964. She then transferred the university’s Milwaukee campus, where she attained a Master of Social Work in 1967. Active in her local community, Ms. Kearney is a former member of the Westport Historic Preservation in Wisconsin and maintains involvement with the Citizen Task Force for Housing and the St. Vincent de Paul Group of St. John the Baptist, among others. The highlight of her career has been knowing that she made a difference in people’s lives and was able to give them hope. She keeps in touch with some former clients as well, and it is enjoyable for her to see their accomplishments.
