Lou A. Wieand, PhD, Professor of Psychology and Licensed Psychologist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements and leadership in the field of psychology.

During her time at Manchester College, Dr. Wieand was torn between pursuing sociology or psychology. Under the influence of an excellent mentor, she chose to pursue psychology and never looked back. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science and subsequently attended Ball State University, where she earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology in 1977. Though she initially thought she wanted to work in child psychology, she found her niche in adult and couples’ therapy. After earning a PhD in social-personality psychology from the University of California Riverside, Dr. Wieand discovered her proclivity for educating young students on the myriad wonders of the human mind, which inspired her to pursue teaching as well.

From 1979 until 1980, Dr. Wieand honed in on education, working as an assistant professor at the University of Redlands in California. She later relocated to Humboldt State University, where she taught students from 1982 until 2014. That year, she earned the title of emerita professor of psychology. Alongside her educational endeavors, Dr. Wieand executed her skills as a licensed psychologist at a local private practice. She has been treating patients there since 1989. Outside of her primary roles, she has volunteered as a therapist for the UCSF Aids Foundation and was a board member for various substance abuse agencies. To keep up with current trends in her industry, she holds membership to the American Psychological Association, the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues and the American Psychological Society, among several other professional organizations. As a testament to her success, she is featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America. Furthermore, in 2019, she became a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
