Marilyn Cole, Professor Emeritus at Quinnipiac University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in occupational therapy.
Ms. Cole has always had a desire to help others. When she found occupational therapy, she liked it because it allowed her to creatively combine her interests. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Connecticut in 1966, she received a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania and completed courses towards a graduate certificate in 1969. In 1982, she earned a master’s degree from the University of Bridgeport. After completing her education, Ms. Cole began her journey towards professional success. In the early days of her career, she worked as an occupational therapist at several different practices, including the Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute and the Newington Children’s Hospital. In 1982, Ms. Cole accepted a position as an assistant professor of occupational therapy at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. She has remained at the university since then, acting as an associate professor from 1995 until 2007, when she was named as professor emeritus of occupational therapy, which is her current title.
Ms. Cole is an esteemed author as well. The highlight of her career was writing her first book, “Group Dynamics in Occupational Therapy” in 1993. In the following years, she has continued to write, both as an author and contributor to book chapters and professional journals. Ms. Cole participates in numerous professional organizations within her field, including the American Association of University Women, the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, and the American Occupational Therapy Association. The latter has presented her with several awards to commemorate her achievements, such as the Service Commendation in 1998 and a Certified Award in 2002. She has also been awarded the Best Seller Award from SLACK Incorporated in both 1999 and 2005 in recognition of her achievements as an author. As a further testament to her success, Ms. Cole has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who of American Women, as well as the 6th edition of Who’s Who in American Education and the 5th edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
