Jeannette DeVaris, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychology and integrative psychotherapy.

Dr. DeVaris specializes in integrative psychotherapy, which is working with a combination of understanding how the brain functions in relation to understanding people. It explores the interaction of emotion, cognition and body functions while coming to understand interpersonal body dynamics and the influence of unconscious processes. In addition, in her practice, Dr. DeVaris treats her patients using methods such as EMDR, hypnosis, relaxation training and mind and body medicine procedures. Since 2006, she has worked with her patients at a private practice in Summit, New Jersey. She brings to this endeavor more than five decades of experience in the mental health field.

Dr. DeVaris was inspired to enter her profession by observing her mother who went back to college when she was 13 years old to receive a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in experimental psychology. When her mother was getting the master’s degree, she would have a friend over to study and discuss. Listening in on these conversations was a young Dr. DeVaris who became fascinated with the field in this way. In her own academic pursuits, she first earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Adelphi University in 1968. She continued to receive a Master of Arts in clinical psychology at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1977 and a PhD in clinical psychology from Seton Hall University in 1987. After earning a bachelor’s degree, she commenced her career as a casework for the New York City Welfare Department. From there, she contributed her services as an alcohol and drug rehabilitation counselor for the U.S. Army. After completing a psychology internship from 1977 to 1978 with the New Jersey State Intern Program, she worked as a senior psychologist at the R. Hall Community Mental Health Center from 1979 to 1999.

In her career, Dr. DeVaris has received such accolades as being named to the Top Doctors of New Jersey from 2014 to 2018. She has also received a Distinguished Achievement Award from the New Jersey Psychological Association. She considers one of the highlights of her career to be applying a certain conflict resolution procedure she developed for a client who had body image dysmorphia. After the procedure, the client’s body image changed completely and they were able to lose weight. Throughout her career, Dr. DeVaris has maintained professional affiliation with the American Psychological Association, the New Jersey Psychological Association and the Essex Union County Psychological Association.
