Irene Kangas, Retired Health Facility Administrator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in healthcare administration.
With a passion for people, Ms. Kangas has dedicated her career to helping others, and retired in 2000 following decades of service. She lent her expertise as president of Genesys Home Health and Hospice in Flint, Michigan, from 1990 to 2000, and as vice president of finance for the LaCrosse Visiting Nurse Association from 1985 to 1990. Ms. Kangas has also served as the manager of financial operations for the Neighborhood House Visiting Nurse and Nursery School in Millburn, New Jersey from 1983 to 1985, and as the director of hospital education for the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Clair, Wisconsin from 1980 to 1983. In preparation for her career, Ms. Kangas attended Mercy College in Detroit, later earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Canisius College in Buffalo in 1979, obtaining an MEd in professional development from the University of Wisconsin in 1987, and received certification as a home and hospice care executive.
Ms. Kangas has enjoyed working in a field where she could serve others and feel that she has done meaningful work. She is extremely proud of establishing inpatient hospice care at Genesys Home Health and Hospice Corp. in 1996, and has contributed numerous articles to professional journals. She holds membership with the National Association of Home Care and the Michigan Home Health Association, among other organizations. As a testament to her success, she has been a recipient of the Corporation of Women of Achievement Award from the YWCA of Greater Flint (Michigan) in 1996, as well as the Irene Waldman Leadership Award from the Sisters of St. Joseph Health Systems in 1997.
