Leon Walker, Retired Rehabilitation Psychologist and Guidance Counselor at Cheltenham High School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the fields of psychology, counseling, and behavioral management.
Intrigued by the field of psychology at an early age, Mr. Walker commenced his higher education at Mansfield State College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and human studies in 1977. Upon graduation, he started as a counselor and teacher for the Kids School in Newark, New Jersey, and in 1980, he started as an adolescent counselor at the Northern Home for Children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mr. Walker continued his education at Pennsylvania State University, earning an MEd in counselor education in 1983, and started as a rehabilitation psychologist at Moss Rehabilitation Center, where he worked until 1997. Additionally, from 1987 to 1989, he worked as a behavior management consultant at the Hall Mercer Community Health Center, and as an academic counselor and adjunct faculty member at Antioch University.
In 1997, Mr. Walker took a new position as a behavior management consultant for United Staffing Services, and in 1998, he worked as a guidance counselor at Sandy Run Middle School. In 1999, he started as a guidance counselor for Cheltenham High School in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, and worked there until his retirement. In addition to his professional pursuits, Mr. Walker has maintained memberships to a variety of professional organizations, including the American Association for Counseling and Development, the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association, the Association for Humanistic Education and Development, and the Pennsylvania Counseling Association. Mr. Walker is proud of the work he has done for people with physical and emotional disabilities, and as a testament to his experience and success, he was featured in the 25th edition of Who’s Who in the East.
