Sharon H. Greacen, Microbiologist, Medical Technologist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of microbiology.
Initially wanting to be a pharmacist, Ms. Greacen attended Idaho State University when her husband was assigned there and switched to microbiology and medical technology since it was a shorter program. She began her education in music and pharmacy studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1963 before earning a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from Idaho State University in 1966. The following year, Ms. Greacen continued at the university and earned another Bachelor of Science in medical technology and completed some graduate school. She embarked on her career journey as a medical technologist at Medical College Hospital from 1968 to 1969, before becoming a microbiologist at the Physicians Medical Laboratories in 1969.
Before her retirement, Ms. Greacen worked in the positions of a supervisor, a microbiology supervisor, an administrator of medical technology/microbiology, and an occupational safety and health manager for multiple organizations. Immediately before retiring, Ms. Greacen worked as a laboratory manager, radiology supervisor, and a safety manager for the U.S. Public Health Service. Notably, she served as a major and on mission support command in the U.S. Army Reserve and is the author of “Swimming Pool Operators.” As a testament to her success, she received a Women’s Management Training Initiative Award, a Performance Award, and an Albuquerque Area Award. Moreover, Ms. Greacen was featured in the first edition of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare and the 23rd edition of Who’s Who in the West.
