Nancy Evans, Nursing Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Healthcare Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership as a nurse and healthcare educator.
Growing up, Mrs. Evans lived in London during World War II, where she witnessed a litany of nurses in action. Inspired by the nurses’ brave and noble service to the wounded, she decided to pursue a career in nursing and started her studies at the Aultman Hospital School of Nursing. She earned a diploma in 1958, and much later in her career she returned to her education, earning a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, from Mount Union College in 1978. In 1983, she earned a Master of Education, summa cum laude, from Kent State University, and finally, she completed postgraduate coursework at the University of Akron.
Mrs. Evans started her career as an educator through her experience as a professional nurse. She worked as a staff float nurse for Timken-Mercy Medical Center, and had eventually landed a position as a clinical supervisor for the medical-surgical unit at Aultman Hospital. Once, a patient she treated was very ill, and his wife needed to be taught how to administer his medication. Mrs. Evans volunteered not only to teach her but also offered to visit her home, free of charge, to help with the difficult task. The patient’s wife, who was the vocational director for Canton Local Schools, was incredibly grateful, and when her husband tragically passed away a few weeks later, Mrs. Evans helped her handle the situation.
A short while later, Mrs. Evans received a call from her patient’s widow about a position at Canton Local Schools, and she accepted. The school hired Mrs. Evans to establish and teach the health occupations vocational program. She worked there until she retired, accruing more than half a century of experience in the field. As a piece of advice to aspiring nurses, though the healthcare field is decidedly different today than it was when she started out, Mrs. Evans says that being absolutely certain of your dedication and passion for the position is necessary to achieve success.
Mrs. Evans boasts many professional certifications. She is a registered nurse in the state of Ohio and is certified as an instructor of diversified health occupations and diversified cooperative health occupations.
