Rose Calhoun, Retired Healthcare Quality Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in population health quality.
With 35 years of practiced industry experience to her credit, Rose Taylor Calhoun, RN, MEd, CPHQ, MBBLSS, has been serving as a health care quality consultant since 2018 and with the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Sorority since 1976. Earlier in her career, she worked as a professional services consultant for Hillhaven in the Tacoma region of Washington for two years before becoming a nursing administrator for Hillhaven in the Southern California region for an additional three years. Over the years, Ms. Calhoun has also gained a variety of experience through executive and educational health care roles for the Camarillo Convalescent Hospital as a director of nursing, Channel Islands Associates as a vice president and Victoria Care Center as an administrator and the chief executive officer. She further contributed to the Blue Cross of California as a quality manager, and Texas Children’s Health Plan as the director of quality and outcomes management. The highlight of her career, however, was working with the Victoria Care Center, where she helped improve patient care and turn the rehabilitation center into an award-winning facility.
Ms. Calhoun was inspired to pursue a career in nursing by her grandmother, an herbalist who would often take care of babies living in the community. To pursue her professional goals, she attended the Texas Woman’s University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1976. She gained further career skills at the University of Houston, where she earned her Master of Education in 1980. With a vast array of knowledge at her disposal, Ms. Calhoun has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications, including “A Quality Improvement Project to Improve Speech Therapy Services to Children Within a Medicaid Managed Care Plan: A Pay for Quality Speech Therapy Incentive Program,” and “QI to Increase Proper Treatment of Skin Soft Tissue Infections in Medicaid Managed Care Plans” as well as “The Impact of Tobacco Smoke Exposure On Childhood Asthma in A Medicaid Managed Care Plan.”
For her professional accomplishments, Ms. Calhoun was selected as one of the top 150 nurses in Houston by The Houston Chronicle in May 2017, earned a Best of Blue Award from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, and was included in features in Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who of American Women. She also received myriad awards for innovation and best practice. Further, Ms. Calhoun is the recipient of the prestigious Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made a notable impact on their field. In the coming years, Ms. Calhoun intends to continue parlaying her knowledge to others as a health care quality consultant.
Ms. Calhoun was born on August 24, 1950, in Kaufman, Texas, to Harvey Stokely Taylor and Theresa Marie Dendy. Outside of her primary professional responsibilities, she has contributed to her community through the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Special Attractions Committee, the Houston Zoo and as a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. A former vestry member of the Church of the Epiphany, Ms. Calhoun has also served on the Westlake Village Community service fund allocation committee. She is also a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, the highest ranking of belt level. In her free time, Ms. Calhoun enjoys traveling and hiking.
