Inspired by her aunt who served as a social worker, Ms. Goddard decided she, too, wanted to help others. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology, with honors, from Converse College in 1961 obtained a Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina in 1963, has been recognized by the American Board Social Work Examiners and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the late 1970s. Ms. Goddard practiced as a social worker with the Children’s Home Society in Richmond, VA, from 1964 to 1971 and was involved with the adoption program by conducting evaluations of family homes before working as the Culpeper County Supervisor of Services from 1971 to 1974. Ms. Goddard was instrumental the development and passage of the child protection laws and developed the first Community Based Child Protection Team Virginia which involved developing licensure processes for social workers. Her immeasurable experience in social work practice, exam writing and serving on social work boards have cemented her status as a pioneer in the formation of the social work licensure.

Ms. Goddard has also been the director of Culpeper Mental Health from 1974 to 1976 and the executive director of the American Association of State Social Work Boards in Culpeper from 1989 to 1994 before holding her current position as the director of Culpeper Family Counseling. She has designed superior study materials for 15 years and is lauded for the quality of her materials that are particularly successful in helping social workers who practice in non-psychiatric setting. Through Ventajas Publishing, Ms. Goddard is currently sharing her wealth of knowledge by offering seminars and individual tutoring to help social workers prepare for licensing on the masters and clinical levels. As a testament to her success, Ms. Goddard has been lauded with the Joseph George Lynch Award in 2013 as well as the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and has been featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
