Krishna R.S. Gujavarty, Chairman of Psychiatry at Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychiatry.
With more than 45 years of professional experience, Dr. Gujavarty is the Chairman of Psychiatry at Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Gujavarty has been associate psychiatrist-in-chief and clinical director of Nassau County Medical Center since 1989. In addition to his primary roles, he has been a member of the Senate at the State University of New York, Stony Brook since 1989, where he has also been an associate professor since 1992, an instructor, assistant professor, and clinical assistant professor from 1981 to 1992, and a resident in psychiatry from 1977 to 1981. Earlier in his career, Dr. Gujavarty was a house physician in surgery with French Polyclinic Hospital from 1976 to 1977, in private practice from 1974 to 1976.
Dr. Gujavarty began his career as a student at Andhra Loyola College, completing coursework from 1963 to 1966. He continued his studies with Karnataka University, earning a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery in 1974. He simultaneously held a rotating internship with Civil Hospital from 1973 to 1974. Dr. Gujavarty is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. He always wanted to be a doctor since he was in high school. He was always curious about science and wanted to help others in his work. In his opinion, education is simply the soul of a society that gets transferred from one generation to the other. If we don’t transmit the good values and a good education from one generation to the next, the progress will be that much less.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Dr. Gujavarty has been an active leader in his community. A fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American College of International Physicians, he is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology, and the Associate of American Psychiatrists of India. Furthermore, Dr. Gujavarty does a lecture series at Stony Brook University called Values in Leadership.
