Elaine Audrey Thomson-Keith, Independent Contractor, Clinical Nurse Educator and Nurse Clinician, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nursing.
Utilizing five decades of practical experience in nursing, Ms. Thomson-Keith is a venerated nursing professional who most recently served as an independent contractor, clinical nurse educator and nurse clinician in Houston, TX, from 2006 to 2010. Previously acting as a clinical nurse consultant at the Christus St. John Hospital in Nassau Bay, TX, from 2006 to 2008, she also worked as the director of surgery services at the hospital between 1997 and 2006. From 1994 to 1997, she served in the same capacity for Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX, having been a former operating room manager and coordinator and teacher for certified classes for nurses. A longtime administrative supervisor for the Methodist Hospital in Houston from 1977 to 1994, she was also the head nurse at the University Hospital of Michigan Medicine, an assistant head nurse at Baylor University Medical Center, and a supervisor of operating room and recovery room and an assistant director of nursing at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO, between 1961 and 1972. She commenced her career as a staff nurse at the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in 1960.
Ms. Thomson-Keith holds a diploma in nursing from the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University. A registered nurse in the states of Missouri, Michigan and Texas, she is a CPR instructor and trainer, as well as a frequent presenter in her field. Since 2014, she has sat on the board of directors of Judy’s Mission Ovarian Cancer Foundation, and she has also contributed myriad chapters to books in her areas of expertise.
From 1994 to 1995, Ms. Thomson-Keith was the former vice president of the Houston chapter of the American Society of Ophthalmic Registered Nurses, having previously held executive roles with the American Nurses Association and the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, including as president of the Greater Houston chapter from 1982 to 1983. In addition, she has maintained affiliation with the Century Club and the Lions Eye Bank, where she is a lifetime member. In light of all of her accomplishments, the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses named her an Outstanding Nurse in 2002 and gave her an Award for Excellence in Perioperative Nursing in 1989. Notably, she was also named an Outstanding Houston Professional Woman by the Federation of Houston Professional Women in 1983. She has also been highlighted in the fourth and fifth editions of Who’s Who in American Nursing, and the 15th and 16th editions of Who’s Who of American Women.
