After gaining prominence in the field, she subsequently earned a Master of Arts in social sciences, law and social policy from Bryn Mawr College in 1983.

In 1984, Ms. Garrahan-Masters briefly served as a teacher at Delaware County Community College, and later went on to fulfill a role as a medical social worker with the Lebanon Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 1985 to 1988. Likewise, from 1992 until her retirement in 1997, she was a part-time social worker for the Delta-T Group. Equally passionate about her community, she also most recently served as an associate member and representative of the National Committee in Washington, DC, from 1993 to 1999. She has further lent her time to St. Richard’s Roman Catholic Church as a Eucharistic minister and Disabled American Veterans as a volunteer.

In an effort to remain abreast of developments within her areas of interest, Ms. Garrahan-Masters has maintained affiliation with numerous organizations. A member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, she has also associated with the Society of Friends of Touro Synagogue, the American Diabetes Association, Alpha Zeta Delta, Alpha Xi Delta and the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, among others. She attributes her profound success to her upbringing, as she was integrated into both the old and new by her mother and grandmothers.
