Carolyn J. Smith, Ph.D., Psychotherapist at Eastern Shore Associates, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychotherapy.
Supported by more than 55 years of practiced clinical experience, Dr. Smith is a renowned psychotherapist who commenced her illustrious career as a guidance counselor at Blue Island High School in Illinois in 1962. Holding the same role for the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, she ascended the ranks to counseling director at Mundelein College and associate professor of counseling at Kennedy-King College. Thereafter, she acted as a clinical supervisor for Valley Adult Counseling Service in Massachusetts and a psychotherapist at the Worcester County Counseling Associates, having subsequently held the role of consultant psychologist for the Massachusetts Department of Education. Since 1987, she has been a psychotherapist and director of the Eastern Shore Associates in Shrewsbury, MA. Alongside her primary endeavors, she has been a psychologist for St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester, MA, and a consultant and educator for various schools and organizations throughout Massachusetts and Illinois.
Highly educated, Dr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts from DePauw University in 1959 and a Master of Science in teaching, guidance and counseling from the University of Chicago in 1962. After gaining prominence in the field, she returned to the University of Chicago and received a Doctor of Philosophy in 1981. She is a licensed psychologist in the state of Massachusetts.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the health care industry, Dr. Smith was selected as a fellow of the American Orthopsychiatry Association. In addition, she has been the recipient of an Improvement Education Grant through the Ford Foundation and the University of Chicago, and a Distinguished Alumni Award from DePauw University. Most recently, she was presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
