Discovering her love for communication disorders early on in her career, she was consistently impressed with the knowledge, passion and skill of pathologists who helped children overcome their communication disorders and flourish in their lives. Recognized for her dedication and compassion in the field, she spends her time working as a speech-language pathologist in Chicago Public Schools, helping formulate treatment plans and offering therapy for faculty and staff on student referrals.
Prior to her illustrious role in education, Ms. Shepard provided speech and hearing screenings and evaluations at the Plano Child Development Center, having also taught speech and language development at Chicago State University. Motivated to enhance the lives of children, she has worked with patients with head injuries and strokes, also providing early intervention services to children with delayed speech and language development. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a certified early intervention specialist.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to her industry, Ms. Shepard has been named an Elite American Educator. Additionally, she was presented with an award for many years of service to children from Chicago Public Schools from the Chicago Teachers Union. Attributing her success to her innate desire to work with children and adults alike, she has never faltered in her profession, having always found it interesting due to the diverse variety of disorders and experiences offered by each client. Looking toward the future, she intends to lessen her work load and further enjoy her hobbies, which include reading, listening to gospel music and attending the theater.
