Cora Sweigart Kurtz, Ph.D., Retired Dietitian and Nutritional Consultant at the Agency for Health Care Administration, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Professionals for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the nutrition industry.

Retired since 2002, Dr. Kurtz is an esteemed figure in the field of nutrition, having most recently worked as a program administrator of health quality assurance for the Agency for Health Care Administration in Gainesville, FL, from 1993 to 2002. Prior to this illustrious role, she was a nutrition consultant for the State of Florida Office of Licensure and Certification and the Agency for Health Care Administration from 1991 to 1993 and a director of nutrition for the Citrus County Public Health Department at the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Services in Inverness, Florida, from 1990 to 1991. Previously, she was a nutritionist for the Alachua General Hospital Center for Health and Fitness from 1986 to 1989, a visiting assistant professor at the University of Florida and University of Miami School of Medicine between 1976 and 1985, and an instructor at the Mailman Center for Child Development from 1974 to 1976. She commenced her career as a pediatric dietitian at the University of Iowa Medical Center beginning in 1966.

Dr. Kurtz holds a Bachelor of Science in nutrition from Eastern Mennonite University, a Master of Science in allied health education from Indiana University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in nutritional anthropology from the University of Florida. She is a licensed and registered dietitian in the state of Florida. The former chairman of education of the Iowa Dietetic Association in 1971, she is also passionate about giving back to her community, being involved with the American Cancer Society, the Reach to Recovery Program, and the Lady Gator Golf Boosters.

Attributing her success to her mentors, Dr. Read and Dr. Christakis, Dr. Kurtz cites the highlight of her career to be working with Dr. Christakis on studying the effects of diet, cholesterol and obesity on Greek and New York children. A former fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, she was also affiliated with the American Public Health Association and the Florida Public Health Association, where she previously served as chairman-elect of the nutrition section, chairman and secretary.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to nutrition, Dr. Kurtz has been highlighted in the 23rd edition of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, as well as multiple editions of Who’s Who of American Women.
