Title: Owner, Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practitioner
Company: NLC Health Center
Location: Orangevale, California, United States

Scott A. Sommer, Owner and Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practitioner at the NLC Health Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Providers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in nutrition and wellness.

An acupuncturist specializing in nutrition and Chinese herbs, Mr. Sommer thrives as the head of the NLC Health Center. The practice offers complementary and alternative medicine, and allows him to both meet with patients and conduct research to further develop the field. Some of his other responsibilities include administering acupuncture treatments, setting up personalized nutrition and wellness programs, and ensuring the availability of patient education programs.

One of Mr. Sommer’s greatest achievements was creating a kinesiology muscle-testing technique, advancing nutrition response testing. The method, when combined with other diagnostic systems, allows him to pinpoint what nutrients are needed to handle stress on the body and balance the organs. He has used it with outstanding results over the years, even in complicated cases like pain syndromes, allergies, auto immune disorders, chronic fatigue, hormone imbalances, weight issues, and digestive disorders. This has earned him international acclaim, and has led to honors such as the Rising Sun Award from Systemic Formulas in 2009 and 2005 and the Golden Sun Award from Systemic Formulas in 2006, as well as the Million Dollar Award from Ulan Associates and the Platinum Award for Outstanding Service to the Community from Justin Toal of Standard Process. Despite his many accolades, however, he considers the highlight of his career to be witnessing people healing and getting better from long-term maladies using his natural and wholesome approach.

Mr. Sommer’s inspiration is his father, an organic farmer, who sparked his interest in nutrition. He decided at an early age that he wanted to use that interest to help people, and worked hard to achieve his goal. His professional journey began at the University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in nutritional science in 1994, and continued at the College of Oriental Medicine at the University of the Pacific, where he earned a Master of Science in traditional oriental medicine in 1998. Mr. Sommer felt that acupuncture and alternative medicine presented the best opportunities to do what he wanted to do, as it allowed him to use both ancient wisdom and modern scientific technology to uncover the root causes of illness, slow down the aging process, speed up the metabolism, and reverse disease processes. He has also studied with significant teachers in the field of alternative medicine, has attended leading-edge conferences, seminars, workshops, and lectures, and become a master in nutritional response testing. He ensures he stays current by reading numerous industry-related publications.

Looking to the future, Mr. Sommer hopes to complete his book, “The Twelve Pillars of Health and Longevity,” and promote it by traveling across the country. He then wants to establish a school to educate other doctors about acupuncture and wellness techniques. It will be a 1-2 year program with an internship. He plans to invite all kinds of doctors, including naturopaths, chiropractors, acupuncturists, MDs, and dentists.

When Mr. Sommer isn’t working, he enjoys organic vegetable gardening, cycling, hiking, photography, spending time with family and friends, reading, attending seminars, and kayaking. He also enjoys community service, and he supports the missions of Boy Scouts of America, the Chamber of Commerce, his local church, and the International Foundation for Nutrition and Health.
