Dr. Kalogjera has provided private practice psychiatry for adults, children and adolescents in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin since 1981, and has served as honorary staff of the Aurora Psychiatric Hospital since 1999. He is also a clinical professor of psychiatry with the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he worked as director of the adolescent in-patient service from 1980 to 1981. As a leader of psychiatric health in Wisconsin, Dr. Kalogjera has also contributed to the Croatian Community of Milwaukee since 1979, and has consulted with the Jewish Family Service in the city for just as long. He is recognized with an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, a Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award, and as a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert. He has earned a place in the pages of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World.
Born in Zagreb, Croatia to Jaksa Jakov and Biserka Erak Kalogjera, Dr. Kalogjera earned an MD with the University of Zagreb and interned there before coming to the U.S. in 1972. He served a residency in psychiatry with the Medical College of Wisconsin, and went on to a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry with the University of Cincinnati. In 1976, he established his first private practice in Rockford, Illinois, but returned to Wisconsin as director of the adolescent in-patient unit. Dr. Kalogjera established the psychiatric office of Ikar J. Kalogjera, M.D., S.C. in 1981, and has provided mental health services in Wauwatosa ever since. He is a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and American Academy of Child Psychiatry, and Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Dr. Kalogjera is also a member of numerous medical associations. In addition to his clinical and professorial roles, Dr. Kalogjera is the founder and leader of the Milwaukee Group for the Advancement of Self Psychology, as well as a diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is certified in psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc., in child
psychiatry, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc., and is certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine. Within his community, he has given his time as a consultant with the Jewish Family Service and the Lutheran Social Services of Milwaukee. He is the recipient of 2012 to 2018 Most Compassionate Doctor Patient’s Choice Awards from Vitals, a 2006 Irma Bland Award from the American Psychiatric Association, and 2003 and 1991 Give a Damn Awards from the Medical College of Wisconsin. In his free time, Dr. Kalogjera enjoys boating, photography, movies, theater, and travel. He is the proud father of Liliana, with his wife, Araceli Colina Cabaron.
