Jan Marie Guy, PA-C, MFS, PhD, Physician Assistant of the HealthWorks Medical Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Health Care Providers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Public Health.
Dr. Guy is a doctor of public health and a licensed physician’s assistant with the Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science, currently working with HealthWorks as a lacuna from her role as a former deputy coroner of Kern County. She intends on returning to the coroner’s office in some years with her physician’s assistant knowledge, and to further help people improve their medical conditions, which has been the most gratifying aspect of her work. Dr. Guy believes her faith and her support from her parents has contributed to her success, and has been decorated multiple times for her service with the U.S. Public Health Service, where she holds the rank of lieutenant commander, and with the U.S. Army, where she is a major.
Dr. Guy primarily administers to work-related injuries and occupational medicine, but she entered the field after studying Spanish with the California State University Dominguez Hills. Inspired by encouragement from her family physician, Dr. Theodore R. Brooks, she attended Charles Drew University to earn a second bachelor’s degree in health science, and went on to a master’s degree in forensic science from National University. In 2009, Dr. Guy earned a PhD in public health from Rochville University, and since 2017 has been diligently working on a PhD in public policy and administration from Walden University. She is a member of the California Academy of Pas, the Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants, the American Academy of Pas, the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, the NCCPA, and the NCCHC.
In addition to numerous awards from the U.S. Public Health Services Commissioned Corps, Dr. Guy holds a Commendation Award from the U.S. Army, as well as a 2004 Army Service Ribbon, a 2004 Overseas Service ribbon, a 2004 Korea Defense Service Medal, a 2004 Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, a 2004 National Defense Service Medal, a 2004 Expeditionary Medal, and a 2004 Bronze Star. In her free time, she enjoys caring for her dogs, visiting specialty museums, studying military history and genealogy, walking, and watching horror movies. Dr. Guy is also a supporter of her local church, as well as the American National Red Cross and other charitable medical societies.
